Growth Coming to Hopkinton – Ready or Not!
April 11th, 2008
The town of Hopkinton has a terrific nursery on the eastern edge of town that has been a great neighbor, a resource of great plants, and a beautiful scene to pass while driving down Route 135.
Hold on, change is coming!
A 708 acre parcel owned by Weston Nurseries was put on the market in 2005, and the scramble has begun. Politicians in town are working to protect their visions of the town, and for a project this size, many citizens also become very vocal.
No matter which side you are on, this sale is going to change the landscape of Hopkinton in the years to come (pun intended!).
Boston Globe wrote a recent article about some specifics. Click here for that.
The project would include 940 units of mixed housing, 300,000 SF of commercial, professional, and medical office space, and another 150,000 SF of retail – including a smaller Weston Nurseries Garden Center – while leaving 500 acres of open space.
Hopkinton will see many discussions over the next few years in regards to the infrastructure changes necessary to have this development work. Adding that many homes, families, and businesses will make some significant changes in town.
Ready? If not, you can always take a look at Holliston?
Hopkinton has planned very well over the past decade. When I lived there a few years ago I was very impressed with the foresight that the town has regarding the town services and the coming growth of the town.
Who wouldn’t want to come to town… good schools, great location, parks and other open space, new construction, wow.
